I went to the Met today for the first time. We had two hours but I managed to see everything I wanted to see. I remember scanning my eyes through textures, colours, shades, different materials, light, shadow, hews, finding that one visual feeling that is going to remain in you for the rest of your life. and I found many. writings from ancient egypt, amharic, chinese, arabic, you name it. I LOVE calligraphy I don't care what part of the world its from. so stay tuned for part II of my calligraphy series. it will to blow you away. a million shades of grey of an ancient stone engraved with shades of colour that have kept eachother company through so much. time. the presence of the buda monuments. the feeling of tibetan temple walls. malian wood carvings. deep wood. the nigerian face profiles on wood. masks, masks, and more masks. the huge i don't even know what to call them from the maori and pacific island peoples. they were absolutely AMAZING. they would take an entire tree and make it into a ceremonial sculpture yet preserving parts of the tree. yes, entire trees in display cases. and entire ships. and even huger trees of sculptures of some kind of people, they had huge eyes, they were painted, and they rocked. I am never going to forget these things, and I can't wait to go to those places to see them for real. a museum is simply not enough. also got to see Cy Twombly, Rothco, and other great works from artists discussed in my mural arts class. I'm not even going to start talking about the paintings cus I'm never gon finish. there were so many colours today, and although its a lil hard to describe it in words I will try my best to synthesise all that into original work. I got only a few weeks left in Philly. I want to create as much as I can while I'm here and bring out the best and rest of Philly in me before I never get a chance to do so anymore.
