OK. So. I just wanted to share something that is actually a big deal for me. I have a new studio now - that is actually separate from my bedroom. I know it sounds funny but it's been something I've been dreaming of for the past 8 years or so and I fiiiinally made it happen. For the past couple years I never really had enough space to create art outside my bedroom. First it was Philly, then Taipei, then Shanghai - my bedroom always looked more like a bed inside a painting studio. And trust me, it sucks. Despite making paintings size 80+, I would literally have to squeeze to the edge of the room just to get enough perspective. I guess house searching for 4 months plus did pay off!

- ywei elena wang is a young artist currently based in Shanghai. Born in Taiwan, she was raised and educated in Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, France, Ireland and Philadelphia. Her work is influenced by the great artists Zhou Brothers, Tim McFarlane, Gibran Khalil, Fernando de Szyszlo, and Antonin Artaud. She has previously worked in theatre acting with cuer2, a theatre company based in Lima, Peru. In 2009 she completed a collaborative live painting series with various artists in Philadelphia created during live jazz, electronic, hip hop and rock music performances. After returning to Asia in 2009, she has been strongly influenced by oriental contemporary masters such as Wang Ren Jie, Zhao Wuqi, Oliver Lin and Wu Hsi Chi, who's abstraction style has further inspired her calligraphy influenced brushwork and minimalist composition. Her series Encuentro is a journey of work created in Philadelphia, Taipei and Shanghai from 2007-2013, recently exhibited in Christy’s Art Gallery in Taipei and Galeria Paspartú in Barcelona.
